Historically, I have had a love/hate relationship with ABC's The Bachelor. Although I wouldn't consider myself a raging feminist, it generally makes me feel like I am letting down women like Gloria Steinem and Susan B. Anthony just by tuning in. The show highlights the worst traits of the fairer sex... catfights, drama, unnecessary tears, desperate behavior, etc.
As entertaining as I have found some seasons to be, the premise just makes me sad: 25 beautiful/reasonably talented/smart women (before the show was overrun with models/actresses/wannabe fame whores) fighting each other for a chance to be with a man who will NEVER marry them. (16 seasons running and zero marriages resulting from The Bachelor's final rose ceremony)
However, The Bachelorette changed all that... Maybe I am sexist, but there is nothing funnier than watching 25 men do the exact same, awful things. 25 attractive, semi-successful men getting into catfights, crying, claiming they are ready to start having kids....that's comedy at its best, and I love it!
Yet, this season's bachelorette, Emily Maynard, is about as interesting as a wet bag of dicks. So I quit watching, thinking it may be time to quit watching competitive dating shows forever....
AND THEN...a friend forwarded me a link to my newest obsession: Burning Love!
Burning Love is a web-series that Ben Stiller is producing for Yahoo! This Bachelor/Bachelorette satire stars some of my favorite comedians/actors in the biz: Michael Ian Black, Ken Jeong, Adam Scott, Ken Marino, Kristen Bell, Malin Ackerman, June Diane Raphael, and many more people I recognize but don't know their names. It features Ken Marino as a Fire Fighter in search of a wife...or at least a fiancée. Watching episodes 1-4 (8min each) was easily the best half hour I have spent all week!
So please - check it out (here) and let me know what you think! If not for me...do it for Ken Jeong dressed like this...
